Day 2

We'll begin our day full of discovery by visiting Saranac Lake - a town regarded as one of the prettiest in America. Enjoy a narrated luncheon cruise on the pristine waters of Raquette Lake and see sprawling wilderness retreats which became known as the "Great Camps of the Gilded Age". Each camp had many buildings typically including libraries, game rooms, blacksmith shops, carriage houses, guest & servants' quarters, dining rooms and more. These impressive estates included features that reflected their rustic natural surroundings while also providing the ultimate in luxury for wealthy families looking to escape the cities. This is a style that continues to be imitated today, especially in most every major lodge built by the National Park Service. Later, visit the Great Camp Sagamore, now an iconic National Historic Landmark, and get a glimpse of the opulence of the past. With its own state of the art hydroelectric complex, telephone system and bowling alley, this estate, once owned by the Vanderbilts, sure had its share of famous houseguests! This evening, explore Lake Placid's main street full of shops and restaurants.

Day 3

This morning, we'll tour the area of Lake Placid with an expert local guide. Highlights will include Mirror Lake, the Lake Placid Club and the Olympic Complex. The Olympic Village was home to both the 1932 & 1980 Winter Olympic Games and presently serves as a year-round training facility for future Olympians. Later depart for home after a three great days of exploring some of New York's natural treasures.
