Day 1

Begin your Italy vacation with an overnight flight (via a connecting city) to Palermo, Italy.

Day 2

Today, arrive in Sicily's beautiful capital city of Palermo where you'll be transferred to the Hotel Garibaldi. You'll stay for two nights at this hotel, perfectly situated directly across from the exquisite theater that shares its name. This evening enjoy a welcome dinner with wine.


Day 3

This morning your guide will uncover Palermo's Norman, Roman and Arab heritage. This bustling city boasts some of the most incredible architecture in the world and is home to an ancient history you'll see reflected everywhere around you. You'll explore Quattro Canti, Palermo's famous square filled with fountains and statutes, see the Norman Royal Palace, visit the Cathedral and the Church of San Giovanni. Later, travel to the hilltop town of Monreale to tour the famed 12th century cathedral famous for its golden mosaics.

Day 4

We start the day with a visit to Valley of the Temples in the hilltop city of Agrigento. These awe-inspiring archaeological ruins are set amid a breathtaking landscape and are considered by many experts to be the best-preserved collection of buildings from Classical Greece in existence today. You'll marvel at the Temple of Hercules, the well-preserved Doric Temple of Concord and the Temple of Jupiter. Later, continue to the romantic town of Taormina where the ideally located Villa Diodoro will be your host for three nights. Perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Ionian Sea, your home away from home boasts a spectacular setting. This evening a dinner is included at your hotel.

Day 5

With your guide, you'll explore beautiful Taormina, whose history dates back to the 4th century BC. You'll view medieval architecture and ancient ruins amid a fertile oasis of olive groves, grape vines and orchids. In Old Town, stroll along the Corso Umberto, filled with boutique shops offering everything from intricate linens and fashionable clothing to antique jewelry and furniture. Visit Teatro Greco (Greek theater) and enjoy unforgettable vistas of Mount Etna and the seacoast. The rest of your day is free to explore and enjoy the unspoiled charm of the area.


Day 6

Today we'll tour the charming medieval village of Savoca to see the locations used in the filming of the iconic Godfather movies. We'll then travel through the fertile farmlands and pine forests to Mount Etna, Sicily's most famous attraction and Europe's highest and largest volcano. Discover Silvestri Craters and the river of lava that was formed from the eruptions and enjoy a fascinating tour of this active volcano. This evening enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 7

This morning, drive to Messina where you'll experience a short ferry ride to Italy's mainland. Visit a local winery where you'll enjoy a tour of the vineyards as well as a sampling of the wines. Continue to Southern Italy's fascinating ancient town of Matera where two nights will be included at the MH Matera Hotel. One of the longest continuously inhabited places on earth, Matera dates back 9000 years. Mostly evacuated during the last century, many dwellings and caves have been transformed into open-air museums and the town has received UNESCO World Heritage Site status.

Day 8

Today explore Matera's sassi, a patchwork of unique ancient neighborhoods nestled along the mountainside. With millennia of history on full display here, its no wonder that Matera has been selected as the European Capital of Culture in 2019. A visit is also included to the fairy tale town of Alberobello to view its cone shaped, stone trulli houses that are still lived in today. This evening savor dinner at a popular local restaurant.

Day 9

Today travel to the peaceful town of lemon groves and cafes…fabulous Sorrento. Enroute visit an authentic cheese factory and assist in the making of famous "mozzarella cheese." Spend two wonderful evenings at the Bristol Hotel (or similar). Tonight, enjoy a delicious dinner at your hotel.

Day 10

Depart this morning for the breathtaking Amalfi Coast. Along the way, you'll observe spectacular ocean views and vibrantly colored towns nestled into the hillside. You'll pass by the amazing town of Positano where most of the house foundations are horizontal. Discover the beautiful town of Amalfi where you'll visit the Cathedral of St. Andrews. Next, explore the impressive old-fashioned village of Ravello, perched high above the sea, to view its famed gardens. Later, return to the hotel with fond memories of all the unforgettable sights of this breathtaking area.


Day 11

Explore the excavated ruins of Pompeii, located at the foothills of Mt. Vesuvius. You'll view baths, forums, villas and some of the most impressive ruins in the world. Later, travel to Rome where your accommodations are provided at the A Roma Hotel. Dinner is included this evening.


Day 12

Today we bid a warm ciao to Italy as we're transferred to Rome airport for our flight home.
